O2 Employment Services is working with a local Medical Practice who is looking for a Histology Technician. This is a full-time, long-term role in Redding, CA.
 
Compensation of the Histology Technician:
  •  $22- $25 per hour, depending on experience
  • Vision, dental, medical offered through O2
  • Monday-Friday 9:00am-6:00pm

Qualifications of the Histology Technician:
  • High level of integrity and professionalism
  • Ability to work accurately with close attention to detail
  • Excellent customer service
  • Associate degree in Histotechnology or related field
  • ASCP certification as a Histotechnician (HT) or Histotechnologist (HTL) is preferred
  • At least 2 years of experience as a Histology Technician in a clinical laboratory setting
  • Experience with histology instruments, including microtomes, embedding centers, and staining machines
  • Familiarity with laboratory safety protocols and procedures
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow precise instructions
  • Proficiency in sample preparation techniques, including fixation, processing, embedding, and sectioning
  • Ability to troubleshoot technical problems and identify potential issues with laboratory equipment
  • Proficiency in staining techniques, including H&E and special stains
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment and communicate effectively with colleagues and superiors
  • Knowledge of laboratory information systems (LIS) and proficiency in computer skills
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize workload, and manage time efficiently
 
Responsibilities of the Histology Technician:
  • Log histology and cytology specimens into computer; label specimens and paperwork with accession number; stamp, date, initial and place specimens on appropriate grossing in table.
  • Stain and coverslip slides and distribute them to appropriate pathologists.
  • Type surgical numbers for individual slides and place number with Redding Pathologists' identification on slides.
  • File slides numerically in slide drawers; label drawers and take slide drawers to shed when full.
  • Label all frozen section slides and DNA slides with pencil and place in appropriate solution.
  • Make new formalin; label and fill formalin bottles.
  • Answer incoming phone calls, and fax reports.
  • Carry full alcohol, xylene and throwaway jugs to the storage shed and replace with empties.
  • Wash and dry containers and change automatic stainer solutions weekly.
  • Wash and rinse dirty glassware daily.
  • Clean and change solution on the tissue processor daily.
  • Pull and dump tissue to discard, neutralize formalin, check ph and document, clean containers and wash sink.
  • Embed tissue, write down surgical number, break out of mold and clean embedding center.
  • Scrape, sweep and pull sticky pads from cutting floor.
  • Clean cassette lids and processor baskets.
  • Set up and run special stains, make new solutions as needed.
  • Cut tissue on a forty-five (45) minute rotation, fme cutting special stains and bone marrow slides.
  • Cut slides for immunoproxidase staining, labeling and antigen retrieval. Make solutions and perform ph testing and antibody dilutions as needed.
  • Adhere to Company’s policies and support management decisions and goals in a positive, professional manner.
  • Other duties as assigned.
