A medical group practice that is committed to providing quality primary and preventive care, behavioral health care, and community outreach services to the residents and visitors of the greater Shingletown area is currently looking for a Billing Specialist. This position is responsible for the medical billing and accounts receivable functions of the clinic operations.  The Billing Specialist position plays an integral role in the stability of the clinic operations and requires accurate, tedious, timely processing of insurance claims, coordinating activities with the Front Office Manager.  This position will be consulted on issues pertaining to billing statements, reimbursements, status of accounts and aged accounts.  The Billing Specialist position may be briefed on other administrative issues that are anticipated to affect front office activities. This is a full time, long term opportunity located in Shingletown, CA.
Requirements of the Billing Specialist:
  • One to two years medical billing experience
  • Knowledge of medical office protocol
  • Knowledge of Medical CPT, HCPCS, modifiers and ICD-10 codes.  
  • Typing/keyboarding
  • Heavy phones and great phone etiquette
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment maintaining patient confidentiality and professionalism in a team-oriented environment.  
  • Ability to deal with people in a pleasant and courteous manner, even under stressful conditions.
  • Must be flexible; work both independently and as a team player.  This position works outside of the medical center in a stand-alone building.
  • Must maintain confidentiality relating to SMC personnel, and information that could result in proprietary damage to SMC.
  • Completion of tasks in a timely manner

  • Security Levels as stated in the HIPAA manual
  • Ability to read, write, understand and spell English correctly.
  • High school graduate required
Benefits of the Billing Specialist:
$20.00 an hour

Responsibilities of the Billing Specialist:
  • Completes the billing and accounts receivable activities as needed interacting with the Revenue Cycle Management Service.
  • Stays abreast of the latest Medi-Cal, Medicare and other insurance company policies regarding reimbursement, assuring maximum reimbursement for patient visits.
  • Reconciles aged accounts and reviews recommendations regarding write-offs, referral to credit agency or special payment arrangements with the Front Office Manager.
  • Provides accounts receivable information to the Front Office Manager in a timely manner.
  • Provides daily reports to Front Office Manager on patient count or other requested information when needed.
  • Assists in the documentation and adherence of policies to maintain an adequate audit trail.
  • May participate in the design and implementation of policies and procedures for patient billing activities. 
  • Assist patients with information on billing statements, co-payments for various insurance packages, and other related activities.  
  • Assists in advising the back office staff of insurance coverage for patient procedures.
  • Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner, and promotes the interests of SMC to the local communities.
  • Be available to assist in the promotion of issues significant to SMC and the general public.
  • Other duties as assigned.
