Local company is seeking LAND DEVELOPMENT PROJECT ENGINEER – Hydrology and Hydraulics Emphasis to join their team. The Land Development Project Engineer is an experienced engineer involved in non-routine and complex assignments. The Project Engineer works in coordination with Project Managers to develop design concepts which are incorporated in the final products. The Project Engineer has license to perform complex design duties and coordinates the technical work of staff within the project team. The Project Engineer may handle some project management tasks but will primarily work on technical aspects. A Land Development Project Engineer should generally possess the qualities of maturity, judgment, leadership, experience and project success and advanced technical knowledge to direct and coordinate the efforts of others.
COMPENSATION for LAND DEVELOPMENT PROJECT ENGINEER
Salary is based on qualifications. Total compensation includes salary + $896 per month cafeteria (insurance) allowance; 7 paid holidays per year; 17 days paid time off per year and up to 5% 401(k) match.
DUTIES for LAND DEVELOPMENT PROJECT ENGINEER
The Land Development Project Engineer is to execute through the implementation of appropriate technical and management techniques each assigned project to ensure its successful completion. To achieve this goal the Land Development Project Engineer shall have the following duties and responsibilities:
- Incorporate design concepts from schematic design into design development and work with/oversee project team to produce construction documents
- Oversee the design work of project personnel to ensure that it meets the highest professional standards
- Strive continually to complete an assigned project on time and within allocated budget
- Review technical work in progress by other departments and/or outside Consultants to ensure that it is being performed satisfactorily; determining if the work is in accordance with the requirements of the contract
- Review drawings and documents to assure compliance with company design, production standards and agency requirements
- Participate in client meetings to heighten levels of project communication and resolve technical project questions
- Conduct site visits as necessary to acquire visual understanding of project specifics
- Implement training methods and procedures for the improvement and upgrading of technical project personnel skills
- Provide feedback to technical support staff concerning their work, progress and company policies; appraise performance of staff as required
- Keep current on the “State of the Art” in design specialty through review of periodicals and continuing education
Typical projects include but are not limited to residential subdivisions as well as multi-family, commercial, retail, industrial and institutional site improvements. The Land Development Project Engineer is expected to be in responsible charge of analysis, design and production of working drawings for Land Development projects. The Land Development Project Engineer position requires advanced design and management skills and knowledge of Computer-Aided Drafting/Design, (CADD), and related computer programs and is expected to assist office professionals by performing other related work in order to meet or exceed client expectations. Incumbents are expected to maintain satisfactory progress in learning through on-the-job training and outside continuing education. The successful Land Development Project Engineer works well with internal company departments; Land Use Planning, Land Surveying and Project Delivery/Client Services, as well as municipal agencies, owners, developers and architects.
QUALIFICATIONS for LAND DEVELOPMENT PROJECT ENGINEER
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: The Land Development Project Engineer regularly works in our office but is required to drive to various worksites as needed. Therefore, it is required to possess and maintain a valid California driver’s license and meet the prerequisites of our insurance agency for driving company vehicles.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS: The Land Development Project Engineer is required to consistently demonstrate efficient work-production, quality work and excellent attendance. Incumbent should possess proven abilities to maintain strictest level of confidentiality regarding all proprietary or confidential client information; observe at all times company occupational safety procedures; work well under pressure with minimal supervision, meeting multiple and sometimes competing deadlines. The ability to support and contribute to the company’s dedication toward ensuring a comfortable, productive and safe environment for all employees, outside contacts, and clients; and demonstrate, at all times, civility and cooperative behavior with clients, colleagues, and supervisors is essential.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Company is a high-energy, fast-paced design, engineering and land surveying office fully automated with civil engineering, land surveying, land use planning and landscape architecture capabilities. The ability to meet multiple project deadlines and the desire to work on a wide array of projects in a dynamic team atmosphere is critical.
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: Any combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, abilities and distinguishing characteristics is qualifying; typical education would include a Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering with electives in hydrology and open channel flow. Typical experience would include five years of technical work. Windows, MS Office and proficiency with Civil3D 2017 is required. Experience with specialized hydrology and hydraulic design software including, but not limited to HEC-HMS and HEC-RAS is desired. Knowledge of basic safe work practices to protect the safety and health of oneself and others is required. Working knowledge of trigonometry, coordinate geometry, topographic mapping, hydrology and hydraulic design is essential.
