SUMMARY

O2 Employment Services, Northern California’s leader in staffing and recruitment, is working with a local organization to find their next Assistant Controller. Ideal candidates will be personable, goal oriented, and people driven. This is a full time, long term opportunity located in Redding, CA.

This position provides detailed accounting and budgeting support in the finance department. Working closely with the Controller, the Assistant Controller is responsible for account processing, managerial and financial statement reporting, compliance and related items for the University, including advising Controller of compliance requirements and/or processing irregularities. Primary duties involve organizing, reviewing and processing University transactions consistent with strong internal control and expedient financial reporting. Secondary duties involve support in the areas of accounting, audit, budget, reconciliation and reporting activities, and related customer service.  Position is also responsible for accounting for federal grants, which will account for 30% of the position.

 

REQUIREMENTS for Assistant Controller

  1. Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field required
  2. Minimum of five years’ experience in accounting, or related field preferred
  3. Proficient in Microsoft Office software applications (e.g. Word, Excel, Access, etc.)
  4. Experience with institutional integrated database applications highly preferred
  5. Strong accounting skills, including experience with generally accepted accounting principles, government auditing standards, and government rules and regulations, including internal revenue service, department of education and department of insurance
  6. Self-starter, highly motivated and well-organized
  7. Highly professional in integrity and demeanor
  8. Familiarity with a wide variety of research methodologies and techniques
  9. Federal Grant accounting experience preferred.

 

COMPENSATION for Assistant Controller

  • $18-19/hour

RESPONSIBILITIES for Assistant Controller

 

Essential Functions:

  1. Monitor appropriateness of University accounts as required, with specific accounting responsibilities as assigned by Controller to ensure proper accounting for University financial activities
  2. Monitor and prepare reports for account processing and filing, budget updates and processing, internal and external financial reporting issues, adherence with University policy, sound internal control and record keeping, and related government regulations
  3. Accounts receivable and general ledger processing and reconciliation
  4. Provide administrative support to controller, including research, financial management reports, and other financial reporting duties as appropriate
  5. Monitor, improve and document financial reporting systems and internal control policies and procedures
  6. Oversee financial aid and other related state/federal funding
  7. Regularly update and monitor University investments
  8. Monitor University grants
  9. Prepare and monitor University annuity agreements
  10. Prepare University tax returns
  11. Research and analyze current internal control and external reporting policies and procedures and make recommendations for the implementation of improvements to these areas
  12. Demonstrate sound internal control and record-keeping in the performance of job duties

 

Related Responsibilities:

  1. Serve as primary back up for cash receipting, third party reporting and compliance as requested
  2. Provide support for accounts payable at front as needed
  3. Assist with preparation of annual Form 1099 and 1096
